Our amazing flag team is going to be taking on the Northville Stallions this Sunday 10/29/23 at Churchill High School, game time is 10 am. Let's fill those home stands with lots of Blue Jay Pride and cheer our fellas onto a victory!!

Good Luck to all of our cheer squads competing in Cheerfest this Saturday 10/28/23!! Show them what you got cheerleaders!!

Must drop off ALL of your athlete's football gear and it must be WASHED/CLEAN/DRY, if not washed/clean/dry, there will be a charge.

Items include: tackle & flag helmets, Guardian helmet cap for varsity, shoulder pads, rib guard, practice & game pants, knee/thigh pads, practice and game belts. Flag helmets and varsity Guardian caps are washable, please hand wash them and only air dry.

If any equipment has been altered, damaged or lost you will be charged for replacement.

Athletes will keep their reversible football jersey, t-shirt and shorts.

Awards program will begin at 2:15 and dinner will be served immediately following its conclusion. Dancing and socializing throughout the remainder of the evening until 6pm.

Tickets for the banquet this year will be heavily discounted, thanks in large part to the amazing job our fundraising committee did this year! We are able to offer the following price structure for the banquet this year:

No Cost - Any Athlete, Coach, Junior Coach, Director, Key Volunteers (treasurer, photographers, fundraising coordinators, field coordinators, and kitchen coordinators) attendee and immediate family living in the same household
$5.00 - Any student guest attendees (18 or under and in high school or younger)
$10.00 - Any adult guest attendees (guests over 18)

*Team moms are not considered key volunteers and will need to purchase the appropriate ticket for banquet.

Tickets will need to be ordered and paid for via our Square link. There will be no on person ticket sales and no sales at the door on the night of the event.

When ordering, you will need to select an option for each guest attending, including the guests that are no cost. This is needed so we can get an accurate head count. The total amount due will reflect only the tickets being paid for.

Ticket sales will close on 10/30/23, so please don't delay and place your order today. No late orders will be accepted as I have deadlines to meet for the banquet hall.

Week 12 Blue Jays Football Communications Email

Blue Jay Nation,

The regular season may be over, but there is still plenty of Livonia Blue Jays football action happening this weekend! The Freshman and JV teams will each be playing in an end of the season consolation game on Saturday, October 21, 2023 but at different locations. The Varsity team made the playoffs and will be squaring off against the Walled Lake Braves on Sunday, October 22, 2023. So don't put away your Blue Jay gear just yet! All the details for the games are below.

Freshman Consolation Game vs. Livonia Eagles

When: Saturday, October 21, 2023

Where: Mies Park practice field at Grant Elementary

Game Time: 12:00pm (please arrive early for warm-up)

Details: Game attire is the same as it was for all regular season games. Please check with your head coach for which jersey your team is wearing. Bring water for your athlete and a chair to sit in to watch the game.

JV Consolation Game vs. Livonia Falcons

When: Saturday, October 21, 2023

Where: Bentley Field

Game Time: 2:00pm (please arrive early for warm-up)

Details: Game attire is the same as it was for all regular season games. Please check with your head coach for which jersey your team is wearing. Bring water for your athlete.

Note: If you are attending any games at Bentley this weekend, there will be absolutely NO PARKING along Berwick and Jameson or anywhere on the grass on the premises. Visitors and families can park in the Bentley parking lot or in the South Rec Center parking lot. Also, please be mindful of the trash you may leave behind and always do your best to clean up after yourself. Again, we are both a volunteer driven and community based program, so the trash you leave is ultimately affecting your community. Be mindful and let's keep Bentley and the City of Livonia the beautiful place it is.

**The Blue Jays are hosting 4 consolation games. Only our JV team is playing, however we are still responsible for some duties as the host location. We will have the concession stand open. If you still need volunteer spots and are available, come on over to Bentley and join us for some fun while fulfilling your last spot(s). No official sign up needed, just come on over. Games will begin at 10am, 12 pm, 2 pm and 4pm.**

Varsity Playoff Game vs. Walled Lake Braves

When: Sunday, October 22, 2023

Where: Tom Holzier Ford Field

Game Time: 4:00pm (please arrive NO LATER THAN 2:30)

Details: Game attire is the same as it was for all regular season games and we will be wearing our BLUE GAME JERSEY. Bring water for your athlete.

Early Weigh-in: 9:30am on the track near the visiting team locker room. Please be sure to have your jersey with you as it is required for weigh-in.

Entry Fee: $3 per person (not including athlete) ages 5+

Note: Please do not bring any noise makers to the game. This includes, but is not limited to, bells, air horns, or any similar devices.

Week 11 Blue Jays Football Communications Email

Blue Jay Nation,

What a season! I just want to congratulate every single player, cheerleader, coach, fan, supporter, volunteer, and everyone who helped make this season the monumental success it was! It was not without its challenges, but as we know, Blue Jays are family and with the support of your family, you can overcome any obstacle thrown your way.

This week, we had an *almost* sweep of the Novi Bobcats! Flag started the day with a 20-20 tie, but still secured the #1 seed in the playoffs and a first round bye. Freshman and JV both followed up with defensive victories, winning 7-0 and 6-0. respectively. Unfortunately, they both fell just short of the playoffs, but will still have a consolation game available to play this weekend! And finally, varsity won the most stressful, nail-biting game of the year with an absolutely thrilling 36-32 final score, which came down to the very last play! They are headed to the playoffs this weekend as the #2 seed!

Note: With regards to cancellations of practices due to weather - We are aware that the weather is unpredictable, but we always try to err on the side of caution when it comes to putting our kids in danger or having them being stuck at the practice field during a storm. Please bear with us as we try to anticipate any severe weather that may impact our practices.

Practice Attire
We are now in full pads every practice (except for walkthrough): Helmet, mouth guard, shoulder pads, practice jersey, practice pants, socks, cleats, and cup (if you choose).
Walkthrough equipment is helmet, mouth guard, practice jersey, shorts, and cleats.
Please bring a water jug full of water to practice every day. Late season practices can be cold and miserable, so please dress your player accordingly.

**Consolation Games - Saturday October 21, 2023**
Seeding and location for some of the consolation games this Saturday are still being determined. The Freshman and JV teams will be playing this Saturday in their consolation games. This information will be cascaded to the head coaches this week for distribution to the parents. As of right now, both the Freshman and JV teams will be playing football this Saturday, October 21, 2023. We will keep you updated as things develop.

**Playoffs - Sunday, October 22, 2023**
Both our Flag and Varsity teams made the playoffs this year! The Flag team was the #1 seed in their division and earned a first-round bye! They will play next weekend! Enjoy the break, boys! You earned it!

The Varsity team placed 2nd in their division and will play a playoff game this Sunday, October 22, 2023 against the Walled Lake Braves in Northville, at Tom Holzier Ford Field.

50/50 Donation For Coach James Lenart
This weekend, our 50/50 raffle was also a benefit for the family of Coach James Lenart, who passed away last week. All day we had some amazing volunteers going through the stands collecting money and we were able to raise an amazing $637, including the winner of the varsity game drawing who donated the winnings back to the family! This is such an amazing show of selflessness. Thank you to all who donated.

I know I preach family in my emails a lot, but I wanted to give a special shoutout to one of our own who got married this weekend and the Blue Jays gained another family member! Pam Milewsky (now Pam McClain) and her now husband Sean got married this weekend and we want to celebrate them! If you see Pam, please give her a big congratulations!

Week 10 Blue Jays Football Communications Email

Blue Jay Nation,

First of all, thank you to everyone who dressed in pink and came out to show support in the fight against cancer during our annual Pink Out game with the Livonia Orioles! It was a beautiful, overcast fall day, which was perfect to play some football! Flag began the day with a thrilling 32-26 victory! Freshman was up next and fought to the bitter end, taking the game into the very last play in OT, but fell 14-13. JV also took the Orioles into overtime, but the defense prevailed in that game, ending in a 6-6 tie. Varsity ended the day with a dominant win from start to finish, winning 28-16 and handing the varsity Orioles squad their first loss of the season!

Week 9 Blue Jays Football Communications Email

Blue Jay Nation,

What a weekend! We couldn't have asked for more perfect weather for our big Family Day extravaganza at Franklin High School this past weekend! Beautiful blue skies, sun shining, and blue and white all around! Thank you to every one who volunteered, donated, or helped in any way make this year's Family Day one to remember!

As much fun as we all had off the field, it was on the field where our attention was on Saturday afternoon, as we squared off against the Livonia Falcons. Flag started things off with another thrilling win, 33-12! Freshman followed suit and dominated in a 14-0 victory! JV was up next, but couldn't quite keep up the winning ways, falling 18-6 to a tough Falcons team. Varsity ended the day with a hard fought game, coming up just short on a 27-16 final score. Win or lose, we couldn't be more proud of the effort and resiliency of our Blue Jays!

Pink Out Game

Week 8 Blue Jays Football Communications Email

It's always a great week when the Livonia Blue Jays go 4-0 on the weekend! Flag started the day off with a convincing victory over the visiting Redford Elite, winning 43-18. The Freshman and JV teams each picked up their first victories of the season, with Freshman winning 14-0 and JV hanging on to a close one, 18-12. Varsity kept up their winning ways, completely dominating from start to finish in a 46-6 rout.

This week is our annual Family Day game and this year we are back at Franklin High School to host the inter-city rivals the Livonia Falcons! There is a lot of information in this week's email regarding Family Day and the Kickoff Pep Rally and Picnic. Please read carefully and thoroughly!

This week we are celebrating our Blue Jay families! The parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, and everyone in our community that help make the Livonia Blue Jays the premiere football and cheer program it is. So take some time this week to celebrate with us! It's going to be a beautiful week, so spend some time at the practice field watching our athletes play some football and call out some cheers. Introduce yourself to someone you may not know, and experience the camaraderie that makes the Livonia Blue Jays a true community program.

We are now in full pads every practice (except for walkthrough): Helmet, mouth guard, shoulder pads, practice jersey, practice pants, socks, cleats, and cup (if you choose).
Walkthrough equipment is helmet, mouthguard, practice jersey, shorts, and cleats.
Please bring a water jug full of water to practice every day. Early season practices are HOT, so be prepared with plenty of water and weather appropriate attire.

Family Day "Kickoff" Pep Rally and Picnic: Monday, September 25th 5:30-7:30pm (no practice)

Location: Mies Park

Dinner: The Livonia Blue Jays will provide Lee’s Chicken for dinner to all football and cheerleading families! We are planning games and activities for the players and families, so stay tuned for more Family Day announcements! This year we will also be doing a COLOR RUN! Be sure to bring a white shirt for your participant and one for yourself if you're brave enough! There will also be performances by our amazing cheerleaders, a tug-of-war, and a special appearance by our mascot Bernie the Blue Jay!

Family Day posters should be turned in to a team mom or director no later than September 28th, to ensure that your poster will be included in this year's family day extravaganza!

Family Day t-shirts will be in this week and will be distributed as soon as we have them in hand!

Week 7 Blue Jays Football Communications Email

Blue Jay Nation,

This week, we split with the Commerce Chargers, going 2-2 on the day with bookend victories by our Flag and Varsity squads. Flag kicked things off with a convincing 32-6 blowout! Freshman fought hard but again came up just short, falling 14-7 in a very close game. JV played very tough against a quick Chargers squad, but came out on the wrong end of a 14-0 final score. Varsity finished the evening out under the lights with the most dominant performance of the day, shutting out the Chargers 33-0!

SPECIAL SHOUTOUT - DYLAN HOULE, #80 JV FOOTBALL
We don't normally do this, but we would be remiss to not mention something amazing that happened at this weekend's game. We'd like to give a special shoutout to Dylan Houle, #80 on our JV football team. Coming into the season, Dylan was not close to the weight limit set for the JV level. He is not the first kid, nor will he be the last, to face this predicament. However, what happened from there is nothing short of inspiring. Dylan immediately began work to lose weight and get into pads and play in the games with his teammates this season. Practice after practice, you could find him running extra laps (many, many laps), pushing weighted sleds, and putting in the extra hard work with his coaches. Week after week, his numbers trended down in his favor. This past week, at early weigh in for the Commerce Chargers game, Dylan was still over the limit by 3lbs. Early weigh in was at 12noon and the weigh in for the JV game was at 3pm. During that time, Dylan BUSTED HIS BUTT running lap after lap in sweats, trying his hardest to be able to play this week. Finally, at weigh in for the JV team, it was Dylan's turn and guess what...HE MADE WEIGHT! Dylan got to play real JV football this week and was dominant in his blocking! It was one of the most inspiring displays of determination and hard work I have seen in youth sports, ever. I would also like to shoutout Dylan's parents, who showed that with the support of the people who love you, great things are possible. Congratulation, Dylan! On behalf of the entire Blue Jays organization, I can say we couldn't be prouder of you!

Week 6 Blue Jays Football Communications Email

Blue Jay Nation,

Our second weekend in Northville was a little more successful than our first! That's what this is all about! Improving and growing as players, teammates, coaches, and fans! Flag started the day with a thrilling 31-30 victory! Freshman found themselves locked in a defensive battle and ultimately coming out on the wrong side of a 6-0 score. JV ran into a buzzsaw in the afternoon and ended up dropping their game 41-0. Varsity ended the day with a hard-fought comeback victory against a tough Colts team, winning 26-16.

CORRECTION: I forgot to change the ENDING practice time. Practice now ends at 7:30pm, per league rules. I apologize for the oversight, but I did not update the practice times in my original email. Again, PRACTICE WILL NOW BE FROM 5:30PM-7:30PM FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON.

Blue Jay Nation,

Even though the scores didn't shake out in our favor, it was still great to be back in the stands and on the sidelines, cheering on our Blue Jays against one of the toughest teams in the league! Thank you to all the fans who made the trip to Northville to show your support! Flag got the day started and put up a great fight, but came up just short, falling 39-33. Next up was the Freshman team and they tried their best, but also fell short to the Stallions, 30-14. JV was next on the docket, and showed some real promise, especially on defense. They lost the game 24-0, but shut the Stallions out for the final 3 quarters. And finally, varsity gave it their all, but couldn't keep up with the Stallions, going back and forth on their way to a 43-27 loss. We should all be incredibly proud of our athletes, regardless of the outcome of the game. Every single squad showed growth and improvement from the first day of practice.

**Please remember, this week is Labor Day weekend and there will be NO GAME. Our next game will be Saturday, September 9th against the Northville Colts, back at Tom Holzier Football Field in Northville.**

Week 3 Blue Jays Football Communications Email

How'd that feel? Seeing live action football at Bentley Field again felt pretty great, didn't it? This year's 3-Way Scrimmage was a success and it looks like the City of Livonia is going to prove to be stiff competition for their opponents this season, ESPECIALLY our Blue Jays! We want to thank all our volunteers and parents for creating and maintaining a clean, supportive, and community environment that focuses on sportsmanship and competitiveness alike. Our Blue Jays looked strong out there, from Flag to Varsity!

This week is a little different. It's game week, so there is some new and updated information in this week's email. This Saturday, the Livonia Blue Jays open the regular season against the Northville Stallions on the road at Tom Holzier Football Field. The Stallions are perennial contenders at almost every level, so this will be a great test early in the season to put all our hard work into action.

Raffle Drawing Results
Despite some challenges thrown at us by Mother Nature, we were able to draw our raffle winners without a hitch! Winners, as well as the video of the drawing, have been posted to the LJAL Blue Jays Facebook page.

Yard Signs
Yard signs have been ordered and are expected to be delivered by picture day, which is August 24th.

Family Day Pictures/Posters
You should have received an email regarding Family Day poster information. Friend of the program Kelly Fay has once again offered her services to the Livonia Blue Jays to have beautiful vinyl posters made for Family Day, which is September 30th this year. This is a completely optional service, and you are more than welcome to have posters made elsewhere, homemade or otherwise. But Kelly offers an amazing value and the posters are beautiful! Pricing and signup information is contained in the email that was sent out.

Kelly is also offering a $50 picture package, and you get 1-18x28, 2-12x18, 16-5x7, and 56 wallets/trading card size.

We are working on setting up some additional time with Kelly, due to the popular demand for her services.

Week 2 Blue Jays Football Communications Email

Each family is encouraged to have a poster made for their player/cheerleader for our family day game that occurs on September 30th, 2023 this year.

Last year, some families decided to have their posters created by photographer Kelly Fay. She will be offering her services again this year.

This is an OPTIONAL service, but if you are interested, she is going to be coming up to Grant and taking pictures for the posters on Sunday, August 27th. The sign-up Genius is below. When signing up, please leave your child's first and last name and jersey number (for football), along with your name and phone number. You may also add what squad your child is on. See sample photos. Please make sure to put the exact spelling of your child's name, as you want it on the poster.

Payment: CASH only
$40 per child

Cheer: Bring pom poms or if you want any other props, please bring them!

The sign-up genius allows for 1 kids per 5 minutes, but if you more then 1 kid, feel free to put all of your kids in 1 5 minute slot. Please arrive 5 minutes before your time-slot, and allow a little time for waiting, in case she gets backed up. We will try to do it very quickly! Attached is an example of what the posters looked like last year. They are amazing quality!

You don't have to do this, and can also make a homemade poster, or get your own made somewhere else, but this is very convenient, and Kelly does a great job. The posters will be delivered to the field no later than Monday, September 25th. Once you have your poster you will give it to the team mom on your squad, so they can all be hung for family day 2023.

Welcome to football season. Take a deep breath, you made it through the first week! This is the best time of year, but it's also not without its challenges. It's gruelling, hard work, but it also teaches incredibly important life lessons that our kids can take to the classroom and beyond. If your child is feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or discouraged, just know they are not alone. This is especially true for new families and football players. This is the first week and things will get better. The Livonia Blue Jays have incredible coaches who volunteer their time and resources to extract the most potential in our kids and help create the next generation in our community.

Annual Livonia 3-Way Scrimmage
This year, our annual Livonia 3-way pre-season scrimmage will take place on Saturday, August 19th at Bentley Field. I have attached the packet put together by LJAL Football & Cheer that outlines times, locations, & other expectations for the day.
